The Exciscope system is designed for high-resolution phase contrast CT. The main components of an X-ray phase contrast microtomography system are the X-ray source, the motion system that controls the position and rotation of the sample, and the X-ray detector. The Exciscope X-ray Phase Contrast Microtomography System offers a unique combination of contrast, resolution and speed. Thanks to high-performance components, precise scanning algorithms and carefully tailored image reconstruction, fast, high-resolution scanning of low-contrast samples is now possible in a compact design. The image processing software is cloud-based and allows for to a web interface to access data and reconstruction tools. This also allows the use of computationally intensive algorithms.
X-ray phase contrast imaging exploits the principle of slight refraction of X-ray photons as they pass through an object. This enables lower atomic number materials such as biological tissue, food and plastics to have better image contrast.
Absorption Contrast Phase Contrast
To achieve higher quality of phase contrast tomography, phase recovery and specialized artifact handling are necessary. If not handled properly, many types of flaws will appear.

Main configuration
①High brightness liquid target X-ray source: MetalJet (optional)
A high-brightness liquid target x-ray source is used, which can operate with short scan times, albeit with the increased distance required for propagation-based imaging. The light source can operate from 20 to 160kV, up to 250 or 1000W, depending on the x-ray source model. Liquid alloys have characteristic line emission at 10keV and 24keV, but the average energy of the emission spectrum can be adjusted by different filters;
②Detector: Tailor-made system
The system implements different detectors, and the resolution and field of view can be selected directly in the acquisition software. For high-resolution imaging, lens-coupled detectors are used, with resolution below 1 µm in 3D. A 7-axis motion system is used to control the position and rotation of the sample, as well as switch between different detectors. The entire assembly is placed on a vibration-damped platform inside a radiation-shielded cabinet.
