On September 22, the International headquarters of the Human Proteome Navigation International Big Science Program (hereinafter referred to as the π-HuB Program) led by Chinese scientists was established in Guangzhou. The reporter learned from the meeting that under the leadership of the Chinese team led by He Fuchu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the π-HuB program has cooperated with global scientific and technological forces to build an interdisciplinary, cross-field and cross-organization collaboration network, attracting a number of international organizations and scientists with global influence to join.

At the Guangzhou Conference of PI-Hub Program held on the same day, more than 30 international experts from more than 10 countries and regions around the world and domestic academician experts conducted extensive and in-depth discussions and exchanges on promoting the implementation of PI-Hub program. The meeting officially launched the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Smart Medicine Alliance, and unveiled the establishment of the Guangdong International Institute of Smart Medicine as the international headquarters of the plan.

Protein is the material basis of life and is closely related to a variety of diseases. A systematic and comprehensive understanding of human protein can not only help us understand life, but also overcome many diseases.

"The genome of different organs and different cells in the same organ can be the same, but the proteome can be very different." "We need to map the human system not only from the organ level, but also from the molecular and cellular level, and under the influence of different factors, including diseases, environment and genetic factors," said Yang Jing, a researcher at the Guangzhou laboratory.

As early as 2002, He Fuchu's team took the lead in proposing the scientific goals and action strategies of "two spectra", "two diagrams" and "three libraries" for proteomics research in the world, led the completion of the first international human organ (liver) proteome plan, and built a national major scientific infrastructure leading the international level in this field. On this basis, He Fuchu led the launch of the PI-Hub project.

According to He Fuchu, the PI-Hub project aims to map the proteome of the whole human life cycle, global major diseases, representative dietary patterns, and living environment, analyze the principles and evolution of the human proteome, and explore the path of biomedical big data from information knowledge to wisdom. To achieve accurate spatial positioning, accurate state characterization and accurate navigation from unhealthy state to healthy state of human proteome localization system.

In 2020, the PI-Hub program became the first national Grand Science program cultivation project in the field of biomedicine, and was officially launched in Guangzhou in November of the same year. In August 2021, the pre-research project of "Insight" university science facilities was launched in Huangpu District, Guangzhou. In December 2022, the PI-Hub program officially launched a collaborative initiative to the global scientific community, which has received wide response and support from the scientific community at home and abroad. In May 2023, PI-Hub plans to release version 1.0 of the white paper to the world.

As one of the core support platforms of the PI-Hub program, the "Insight" big science facility is the world's first "carbon-silicon" integrated intelligent terminal big science device created through the integration of hardware and software and artificial iteration, which is the main carrier of a large queue and multi-dimensional bioomics data production and intelligent computing system. At present, the start-up laboratory of the pre-research project of "Bright Eye" big science facilities has been in normal and orderly operation.

At the Guangdong International Institute of Smart Medicine, researchers are using the world's first fully automated proteomics platform to carry out intensive research work. "On this platform, there is no need for human intervention from the pre-processing of samples to the production of mass spectrometry data." According to the relevant researchers at the scene, "Just like gene sequencing, the data output from the platform can diagnose whether the human body has diseases." If so, the stage of the disease, the type of disease, can be analyzed through the data."

The PI-HUB program will provide new theories, technologies and methods for human health management, scientific health preservation, and precise prevention and treatment of diseases. Up to now, the PI-HUB program has formed a top talent team led by more than 20 academicians in the fields of life omics, clinical medicine, data science, artificial intelligence and other fields, and established cooperation with national strategic scientific and technological forces such as the National Protein Science Center, Pengcheng Cloud Brain, and human cell Lineage, which has laid a solid foundation for the full implementation of the international big science program.
