Overview of the "Frontiers in Pharmaceutical Development Forum" on June 10, 2021

On June 10, 2021, our company accepted an invitation to attend the "Frontiers in Pharmaceutical Development Forum," with Mr. Liu Zhankui representing our company as an outstanding entrepreneur.
The "Frontiers in Pharmaceutical Development Forum" was successfully held at the Translational Medicine Building on the Minhang Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Professor Yao Wenbing, Director of the Pharmacy Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education and Vice President of China Pharmaceutical University, along with leading representatives from nearly ten pharmacy schools nationwide, engaged in discussions on major issues such as educational philosophy, disciplinary development direction, talent cultivation models, international education reform, and key areas for original innovation in pharmacy schools in response to national strategic needs.
Academician Ding Kuiling, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with Vice Provost Wu Jingyi, Dean of the Graduate School Wang Yaguang, School of Pharmacy Party Secretary Liu Jianxin, Dean Zhang Ao, faculty members from the School of Pharmacy, and representatives from outstanding enterprises attended the event. The forum was chaired by Zhang Ao.
Ding Kuiling delivered the opening speech, extending a warm welcome to all attendees. He emphasized that biomedicine is one of Shanghai's three key emerging strategic industries. Universities, as vital sources of original innovation and producers of top-tier innovative talent, will closely align with national innovation-driven strategic needs, focusing on strengthening foundational research and interdisciplinary approaches to cultivate versatile, outstanding innovators and tackle core drug R&D technologies. He expressed hope that the forum would serve as a platform for exchanges on talent cultivation and scientific research, further promoting the intrinsic development of pharmaceutical sciences at SJTU and making greater contributions to exploring new models, pathways, and frameworks for pharmaceutical advancement.
Wang Yaguang addressed the topics of discipline construction and graduate education, noting that in the context of accelerating the establishment of a pharmacy education system with Chinese characteristics and vigorously advancing pharmacy talent cultivation in the new era, SJTU's School of Pharmacy is undergoing deep reforms and rapid development. Graduate education in pharmacy at SJTU will focus on key disciplinary priorities, align with major industry demands, and accelerate interdisciplinary research and innovative talent cultivation. He looked forward to experts providing insights and suggestions for the school's development.
Yao Wenbing presented a keynote report titled "New Reflections on Pharmacy Discipline and Specialty Construction in the Context of Medical Education Reform." The report comprehensively reviewed the development history of higher pharmacy education in China and major reforms in pharmacy education, analyzed the new challenges and issues facing pharmacy education amid medical education reforms, and proposed the talent cultivation goal of "understanding medicine, excelling in pharmacy, adept at research, and capable of achievement." It also explored models for cultivating innovative drug research talent and elaborated on the concept of "New Pharmacy," emphasizing deeper interdisciplinary integration to build a modern pharmacy discipline system.
Subsequently, Zhang Ao provided a detailed introduction to the development history, current status, and the 14th Five-Year Plan of SJTU's School of Pharmacy. He noted that the school is at a critical juncture, undergoing comprehensive reforms to address new challenges and opportunities, including the fifth-round discipline evaluation, undergraduate program accreditation, and applications for the "Top Talent Training Program 2.0" pharmacy base, aiming to achieve new breakthroughs in development.
Experts engaged in discussions on emerging opportunities and challenges in pharmacy discipline construction, offering forward-looking and constructive suggestions for the development of SJTU's pharmacy programs.
